Stainless steel welding is a process which involves welding of stainless steel. Different methods are used for welding, depending on the thickness of the material and finish required. There are mainly three methods that are used across steel industry for manufacturing of different items made from this multi-purpose metal alloy.
The most common methods of welding stainless steel that can be used along with metal laser cutting in Melbourne are:
1. TIG welding: Gas tungsten arc welding is another name for TIG welding. This technique offers high quality welding which can be used for a large range of products and is believed to last long. This commonly used welding process creates a low heat input, which makes it perfect option for welding thin materials. Argon gas is mixed with other gases like helium, hydrogen and nitrogen depending on the requirement of the project. A single side welding process is used to prevent oxidation and to increase resistance to corrosion. Inert backing gas protection between interior and exterior welds is also created by single side welding.
2. Resistance or spot welding: This type of welding is the most economical of all the type of welding techniques. This versatile technique can be used in both small and large projects. Spot welding technique works well on metals with low melting point because the welding technique can be customized to prevent distortion of metal.
3. Gas metal AC welding: The welding technique which is commonly known as MIG welding is a semi-automatic process that joins two pieces of stainless steel strongly if done correctly. Argon rich shielding gas and solid wire electrode are used in the process. This popular welding method allows welder to utilize a pulsed current supply. Tough to reach spots can be reached on different stainless steel projects where other welding techniques does not provide much support. Gases like helium, oxygen, and carbon dioxide are used for improving the quality of weld and stabilize the arc.
Depending on the quality required by project, the welding method can be chosen.
