What Are The 4 Types Of Tools Used By Sheet Metal Fabricators In Melbourne?

Sheet metal fabricators in Melbourne turn flat sheets of steel, aluminum or other metals, into metal structures or products by cutting, punching, folding or assembly. Different processes are used for bringing the metal sheets into the desired shapes.

Most common tools used in custom sheet metal fabrication are:

1. Cutting tools:

You can use special tools like band saws and chop saws for fabrication process of custom sheet metal. These specialized cutting tools cut the metal with smooth edges and avoid torn off edge for the sheet or product. For large section of sheet metal cutting, you can use cutting torch, which finishes your task with minimum time and effort.

2. Bending tools:

Press-brakes are the most common tools used for creating sharp bends and angles within the metal. A wide range of brakes are available for different functions and purposes.

3. Assembly tools:

Once all the components are formed, they are assembled or welded into position. You can choose the correct welding technique for the assembly process so as to avoid warping or other abnormalities. Few welding techniques use sand to cover the fabricated part during the cooling process, special straightening process, using stout fixture etc. Rollers are used to shape flat sheet of metals. Tools and dies are used for stamping designs into the metal. A puncher is used to make holes on the metal parts like latches, handles etc.

4. Finishing tools:

Once the metal parts are formed by assembly and other techniques, they need to be finished by eliminating rough spots or uneven edges etc. Few parts are treated for UV, water and rust resistance.

If you have a metal project in hand that needs fine detailed parts, you can contact the nearest fabricators who can help you by handling the project in the best possible professional way.
